Very recently, Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced that he was joining Manchester United to play under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, confirming months of speculations.

The player has been described as an impact player and expectations are heightened, considering his exploits in the French League.

Ibrahimovic got on board from Malmo then he moved to the Eredivisie where he made exploits at Ajax FC. From Ajax, he moved to Italy to play for Juventus then Inter Milan. In 2009, he made a £59 million move to Catalan giant Barcelona. He played just a season before he moved to AC Milan on loan. He returned to the Spanish giant before he joined AC Milan on a permanent deal. He moved to Paris Saint Germain in 2012 where he broke lots of records.

On coming to Manchester United at this time, there has been lot of ‘talk’ as analysts argue if the player would impress as much as anticipated. When Mourinho was at Chelsea, he gambled on Red Devils reject Ramadel Falcao who turned out to be another disappointment. There are now concerns if Ibra will not go the same way, especially as it is his first time playing in the English Premier League too.

With his kind of reputation, expectations can be unrealistic and the backlash could be huge considering that Manchester United are at a point where they cannot be experimenting after their woes since Sir Alex Ferguson left. Examples of such disappointments are Andriy Shevchenko’s switch to Chelsea.

Fernando Torres had EPL experience with Liverpool but was still a disappointment when he joined Chelsea. Nicolas Anelka’s move from Arsenal to Real Madrid also comes to mind.

Mourinho has opted to play just Ibra with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as support. However, with the huge task ahead, many can’t help but fear for the Swedish player.
